Vote

V O T E
A four letter word, containing the power to transform one billion lives.

As suggested by a friend, I'll try to shorten my post. Let me begin with a story.

The emperor Akbar wanted to know how much do the people of Delhi love him. He called his best minister Birbal and asked him to do the needful.

Birbal announced in the whole city that the emperor was on death bed and as diagnosed by the doctors, needed a bath in milk. Birbal said that to save the emperor all the people should come to the swimming pool in the mid of the city in the late evening and pour a glass of milk and the emperor would take bath in it the next day.

Everybody thought all thousands of people will pour milk, what if I pour a glass of water, nobody will come to know in the dark.

Next morning, Akbar went to the swimming pool finding the whole pool filled with water.

Same thing happens with us also. One individual will think, one billion people are going to vote, what difference does it make, if I don't vote, but we forget that others may also be thinking the same.

Idealism says it that voting is our right, a time has come when we have to say voting is our duty. We should be ashamed of ourselves that we need to run campaigns like Jaagore. If this is the plight when it comes to voting, I sometimes feel we are not educated enough to enjoy the luxury of democracy.

This year in the parliament elections, the so called educated people of metros and other big cities enjoyed the day off and less than half turned up for voting in most of the cases. Instead villagers showed up more, this says that our schools teach only maths, science, literature, accountancy but no morals.

If after being a doctor, engineer, scientist, accountant; if you don't feel from inside that you should vote, I would dare to say that all your education is in vein. You do not deserve the fruits of democracy. If your conscience doesn't push you to vote, you deserve dictatorship only, where you do not possess freedom of speech, freedom of expression, equality of laws and all other fundamental rights.

In schools kids are made to speak up fundamental rights and duties and poor innocent kids mug them up, they never think that it has some relevance to their lives.

For the kind information of yours, I would like to mention one provision that is known to few.

If you think that no candidate deserves the parliament or assembly or local civil body seat, you can go to polling booth, get yourself registered and you can choose not to vote anyone. If the margin of victory of winning candidate is less than the number of people not preferring to vote, that particular constituency will be undergoing re-election with fresh candidates.

  1. Tats a nice blog...
thing is..the so called educated have an apathy towards voting. They simply give lame excuses like all candidates are the same..corrupt..no use and the like.If u really feel tat way , u can go and register that no candidtate is really worthy of the post.
Our constitution , in some part, says, supreme court is supreme. But our politicians have tweaked it.Now it says parliament is supreme.
Our prime minister , president and all others are of no use.Everyone is an YES MINISTER!!!
so ppl need to take the PAIN of voting atleast to keep themselves away from pain for 5 yrs:)
Its high time ppl realise tat rather than having the pleasure of sleeping on a single day, its better to vote and sleep peacefully during nights.

  3. Ya, thanks for bringing that to notice...

    The truth goes like:
    (As copied from www.voteindia.in http://www.voteindia.in/news.php)
If an elector, after his electoral roll number has been duly entered in the register of voters in Form-17A and has put his signature or thumb impression thereon as required under sub-rule (1) of rule 49L, decided not to record his vote, a remark to this effect shall be made against the said entry in Form 17A by the presiding officer and the signature or thumb impression of the elector shall be obtained against such remark.
This Infers that in no case will there be a re polling in the said constituency, however the negative/neutral vote is registered and counted so as to cross check on the total number of votes polled.
